Listen to the forecast
Today is the first quarter Moon. The Sun and Moon are in a waxing square aspect which is stressful and demands action. Last month’s first quarter Moon occurred in the sign of Leo, and so does this month’s. But today’s Moon falls in the final degrees of Leo, nearing Virgo, so it holds the energy of both signs. Every astrological sign reacts against the previous one. Whereas Leo is warmhearted, Virgo is analytical; Leo commands the center of attention, while Virgo works behind the scenes; Leo is expressive and creative, while Virgo keeps things in order. Today’s Moon offers an opportunity to bridge areas in your life which demand both Leo’s creativity, and Virgo’s diligence.

Later today, the planet Venus leaves Gemini and begins her journey through Cancer. In the mutable air sign Gemini, Venus is talkative, spontaneous and fickle. In sensitive Cancer, the planet of love becomes emotionally perceptive and nurturing. “Home is where the heart is” is an eloquent expression of Venus in Cancer. For the next few weeks, Venus in Cancer lends a sense of enveloping warmth, inviting us to be affectionate with loved ones and cultivate our family and home life. Since Venus also symbolizes artistic inspiration, it’s an opportune time to explore your own creativity through nurturing activities at home like gardening, cooking, and redecorating.

The flower for the month of May is Lily of the Valley, said to represent happiness and purity of heart. The plant’s delicate, bell shaped flowers belie its hardiness. Lily of the Valley thrives where other perennials don’t. It’s also poisonous and believed to protect gardens from evil spirits. Venus rules love, beauty and attraction. But like Lily of the Valley, there’s more to Venus than meets the eye. When Venus encounters Saturn’s limitations today, it lends seriousness to her nature. Neptune also affects her temperament with its nebulous toxicity. It’s easy to assume that something beautiful is fragile, but like Lily of the Valley and Venus, that’s not always the case.
